meitheal

(pronounced MEH-hal)
is an ancient Irish term for a community-based, cooperative labor system where neighbors come together to assist with, or complete, a significant task—such as harvesting crops, saving turf, or thatching—for one of their own. It represents the spirit of solidarity, reciprocal support, and working for the greater good.
