#MeLettingGo

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

In 2017, I started a nightly practice of letting go of the day. #MeLettingGo

I fold that day’s (S-F) desk calendar page in to a heart. (I use the Mary Engelbreit daily desk calendars https://maryengelbreit.com/).

While making the folds I hold with intention
my kith, kin, and community
in what I call
The Light of Love.

Then I post the Emerson quote on my social media walls.

For the first year I sewed that month’s hearts into a garland string.

Now I store the current year’s hearts in a gallon jar. As of January 2026, I have 9 bags of these hearts.

Over the years since I started this nightly ritual I (and the dysfunctional committee that lives in my mind) have been sleeping much better. Folks that really know me – know that letting go, especially not owning what I have no control over, is hard for me. I am getting better.
